GOSPEL CHOIR DIRECTOR
DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
(Part-time, 10-15 hours per week)


OVERVIEW:
The Gospel Choir Director is responsible for the leadership of the Rivier University Gospel Choir.  The Director’s oversight includes the growth, development and performance of the choir.  The position is part-time during the academic year.  The position reports directory to the Director of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create a mission statement for the Rivier University Choir
  • Recruit, hold auditions and develop group membership
  • Conduct rehearsals, performances and coordinate schedules
  • Choose choral repertoire and manage music library
  • Provide at least one concert per semester
  • Participate in select University events and programs as requested
  • Ensure a diverse offering of Gospel and Contemporary musical arrangements
  • Identify and hire additional accompanists
  • Oversee and maintain budget
  • Manage concert logistics
  • Coordinate marketing and Public Relations efforts with the Office of Marketing and Communications

 QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability and willingness to support the mission of the institution and the department in all daily activities.
  • Experience conducting ensembles, choirs for concerts and/or other public performances
  • Minimum of five years’ experience conducting gospel choirs
  • Proficiency in directing and accompanying vocal groups
  • Familiarity with a wide range of gospel music, including folk, contemporary and traditional gospel music
  • Experience conducting and coordinating accompanying instrumentalists
  • Experience teaching and directing student vocal groups
  • Experience in transposing and arranging musical pieces
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
