Cross Cultural Experiences

The OGE recognizes the many cross cultural opportunities that exist within Nashua and throughout New England. Such experiences are considered gateways to longer teaching trips and study abroad experiences. Local immersion experiences are always being developed with other Rivier departments. Most cross cultural experiences will be one to three days in duration and combine learning and service components.

October:
Ride the Rivier University van to Manchester and meet Sister Irene Marie, who has been working with refugees for over twenty five years. She will introduce us to leaders of the Bhutanese refugee community, who will share with us thoughts on life in the US as a refugee. After a time of questions and discussion, we’ll stop for pizza on the way home and process what we have learned.

November:
Three day “Act Locally” City Reach trip to Boston. Eight students will travel to inner-city Boston to learn and to serve in a local community through the City Reach program at St. Paul’s Cathedral. A “first step” cultural immersion process, this is a great low-cost, short-time way to engage another culture and experience an urban environment.
