Position Title: 

Reading Specialist       

Job Description:  

America Reads is a work study program that entails assisting a child with their reading either during class or after school. We are looking for students that are friendly, dependable, enthusiastic, and have a desire to help other children as well as give teachers a hand in the classroom.    

Qualifications/Skills Needed: 

  • Must provide their own transportation to schools                                                      
  • Reliability and punctuality, ability to follow directions                                               
  • The student must represent Rivier University in a positive manner at all times       

Number of Students Needed:    12-18

Number of Hours per Week per Student:   3-10 or Depending on teacher and student schedule

Position Title: 

Student Ambassador

 Supervisor:

 Job Description: 

A Student Ambassador represents Rivier University to prospective students and families, as well as supports Admission staff in daily office operations. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Rivier University and have the ability to communicate the value of a Rivier education to all visitors.

 Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide enthusiastic and effective tours of the Rivier campus to visiting students and families
  • Participate in weekend Admission events, including Open Houses and Information Sessions
  • Assist Admission staff with daily office related tasks, such as answering phones, mailings, making deliveries, filing, photocopying, etc.

Skills/Qualifications: 

 

Public speaking and effective communication skills
Knowledge of Rivier’s mission, campus and various academic programs

Time management and dependability

Positive attitude and enthusiasm

Ability to work as part of a larger team

Availability to work several weekend events

Fitness Room Worker

Job Description:  

  • Supervise the fitness orientations needed
     

Qualifications/Skills Needed: 

  • Responsible and reliable
  • Interest in/knowledge of fitness, weight training
  • Friendly – able to give proper fitness room orientations to students, faculty, staff
  • Must be able to lift 45 pound weight plates

Game Worker

Job Description:  

  • Do various jobs at Rivier intercollegiate games.
  • Jobs can be: ball people, video-taping, scorekeeping, statistics keeping, gate/admissions, timer, clock
  • You will be assigned to jobs.  We can train you for the various positions

 Qualifications/Skills Needed: 

  • Responsible and reliable 
  • Interest in/knowledge of sports is helpful
  • Flexible – games can be any day of the week morning-evening

Number of Students Needed:    15-20

 Number of Hours per Week per Student: Will vary – depends on number of games worked per week

Generally an event is 2.5-3 hours

  • Flexible – games can be any day of the week morning-evening

 Position Title: 

Educational Resource Center (ERC) Student Employment    

Job Description:  

 The ERC is looking for student assistants to perform a variety of daily tasks including: assisting library patrons at the main desk with circulation functions such as checking items in and out, retrieving course reserve materials, answering and transferring phone calls, etc. Students will complete a variety of organizational tasks each hour, such as arranging returned items by call number, refilling printer paper, straightening up chairs, tidying up project areas, etc. Additionally, students may be asked to help with special projects as needed. 

 Qualifications/Skills Needed: 

Qualifications include: exceptional customer service attitude, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, reliability and punctuality, ability to follow directions.

 Lab Assistant

 Job Description:  

 To be of assistance to students who are programming or using application software; to oversee the smooth operation and orderly setup of the computer labs; to implement the management and procedural policies.

 Qualifications/Skills Needed:  

 A good command of the Windows Operating System commands, MSWord, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.

Shifts to be filled: Wednesdays, 6:00pm-11:00pm; Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:45am-1:00pm

Position Title: 

Tech Tools Support Specialist

Job Description:  

  • The Tech Tools Support Specialist will assist students with questions they have about various technology related academic tools. The Support Specialist will be located in the Regina Library and be available during evening hours beyond the normal operating hours of IT staff. He or she will assist students with the following as a minimum:
  • Connecting wirelessly to the campus network
  • Printing from campus computers
  • Using Microsoft Word and PowerPoint to complete assignments
  • Using Canvas
  • Using internet search tools to locate answers to technology questions
  • In addition, the technician will maintain accurate records of types, and times, of support provided, as directed by supervisory personnel. 
     

Qualifications/Skills Needed: 

  • Understanding of computer functionality/different versions of MS Windows
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Familiarity with various academic-related computer applications used at Rivier (i.e., Blackboard/ Canvas)
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • This position may provide an opportunity to develop a variety of other technical skills.

Prerequisites:
Selected students must be dependable and able to work designated schedule; enjoy working in a public service–oriented setting; and show willingness to problem-solve and search for answers. Basic training in the supported technology will be provided. This is a customer service position – the individual needs to be cheerful, positive and polite.

Job Description:

On Site Coordinator work-study position

The Rivier University Service Learning Office is looking for several work-study eligible students for an exciting leadership opportunity. We are searching for students to serve as coordinators for our community service programs.

  • Engage in direct service at a local community agency
  • Support fellow students who are serving at the community agency
  • Work with the community agency to make sure their needs are being met
  • Engage in campus activities that recruit and support volunteer efforts for the community agency

 Position Title: 

Student Phonathon Caller                                                                                                        

Job Description:  

  • Student callers contact Rivier University alumni to keep them in touch with the University, update their contact information and to raise money for Rivier’s Annual Fund (which, in part, supports student scholarships).
  •  The student caller position is a great way to develop communication skills, add experience to your resume, and meet new students. The Phonathon is located on campus and runs shifts Saturday and Sunday 1:00–5:00 pm and Monday through Thursday 5:30–9:30pm. Student callers work a minimum of 8 hours a week (two 4 hour shifts).

 Qualifications/Skills Needed:  

  • The student caller must represent Rivier University in a positive manner at all times. Good communication, attention to detail, customer service skills and enthusiasm are a must.
