   REGINA LIBRARY
                  INTERNET POLICY STATEMENT

Purpose

In order to supplement print resources and provide faculty and students with a comprehensive array of research and instructional materials, professional staff will review, select for inclusion, and maintain an "Internet Resources" component of the Regina Library home page.

Policy Statement

Regina Library endorses the following criteria for the inclusion of documents in the "Internet Resources" component of Regina Library’s web site which will consist of general/reference resources and subject resources intended to support the instruction and research efforts of the college community.

  1. Emphasis will be placed on those subject areas that reflect the College’s curriculum and enrollment numbers in academic disciplines.

  2. In general, Internet resources that enhance the scholarly and instructional pursuits of the College (research and teaching) will be collected, evaluated, and added to the Internet Resources component.

  3. Internet resources selected for inclusion should have an indication of authorship (individual(s), corporations organizations, or associations) and their qualifications and/or affiliations with established institutions.

  4. The purpose or intent of selected documents will be readily indicated. Documents whose main purpose is to inform or instruct are preferred. Resources that advertise a product or service are discouraged from inclusion.

  5. Web sites selected for inclusion should indicate when pages were last revised and/or published. Documents without a readily available date or publication will be considered only if other criteria for inclusion are strong. Staff will periodically review documents in the Internet Resources component for timeliness of information, relevancy, and accurate address.

  6. Regina Library is not responsible for and cannot control the content or accuracy of information in chosen web sites, although all attempts will be made to assure quality by following the above criteria outline. The Library does not have control over currency of date, validity, or changes made to resources or to links from resources. That resources are unpredictably available or unavailable is also beyond the Library’s control.

  7. Due to the volume and vast array of subjects on the Internet, Regina Library urges library patrons to be informed users and carefully evaluate information they find. Library staff is available to assist patrons in making judgments about the reliability or currency of Internet resources but cannot provide a definitive analysis of the information.
