CS690 Data Modeling

Course Description( 3 credits )
Data modeling is an essential process for representing information within an enterprise. Without proper data representation, one cannot be assured that database designs will meet corporate goals. This course introduces students to data modeling essentials for several industries and gives hands-on experience with Oracle Designer 2000, a CASE tool for describing data elements. Corporate business rules, modeling techniques, forward and reverse engineering to/from Oracle-8i databases will be accomplished in lab projects. Beginning with a conceptual model, logical, and physical data models will be derived during the semester.
