
Brief Description
Linux, an implementation of UNIX
operating system, runs on a variety of platforms. It is freely distributed
under the terms of the GNU General Public License. Linux is used in a
wide variety of application environments, including Internet and File Servers,
scientific programming, and high
end personal computing.
We use Linux in
our
Operating Systems and
Advanced Operating Systems courses.
Students will look at Linux internals and do system programming homework on Linux.
These programs
are usually written in C and C++ using the GCC compiler.
