are the prerequisites for internship?
Students
need to complete all prerequisite courses and obtain approval from the the
director of the Computer Science Department. [Back

2. What
is the determining
grade point average for internship eligibility?
Students
must have a 3.5 GPA or higher at the time of application and starting work.

3. How
many weeks or hours are required?
Internship
employment period includes the academic semester duration. Part-time internships
are no more than 20-hours per week and full-time internships are 40-hours per week.

Is the student able to earn a letter or a pass/fail grade and carry up to four
credits?
Internships earn one to three credit hours. The number of credits awarded is based
on the type of work experience and the number of work hours required by the internship
employment. Internship credits do not count towards
the 36 credits required for the M.S. program.

5. Are
Fall or Spring internships possible?
Internships are possible for all regular academic semesters, including Summer 1,
2 or long session. [Back

6. Can
a summer internship be authorized?
Summer
internships will be authorized as long as the duration includes an academic
term.

7. Does
the independently obtained internship need to be reviewed for academic approval
and at what point must this happen?
Not
necessarily, but students are encouraged to seek academic credit for their
internship experience. Employers look favorably on internships that receive
academic support. Many times, collaboration with an academic institution
increases the chances of approving an internship application. [Back

8. What
academic work must students complete at the end of the internship?
A written report must be submitted at the completion of the internship
experience. The report is organized as a portfolio. Guidelines about how to
prepare the internship portfolio are provided at the time of application.

9. What
opportunity resources are available for students who are interested in
internships?

10. Are
international students authorized to work while in F-1 status?
Yes,
as long as they have been full-time students for at least 9 months prior to
beginning the internship. However, international students
need to use Curricular Practical Training
(CPT) as an employment option for internships. Please
check F-1 Info for more on CPT
and other immigration details.
