4/30/07 - COMMUNICATIONS ASSISTANT, GRASSROOTS ASSISTANT, AND CAMPAIGN ASSISTANT INTERNSHIPS AVAILABLE AT PRIORITIES, CONCORD, NH. The PrioritiesNH campaign informs NH citizens about current federal budget priorities and provides a vision of what America could accomplish if those priorities were shifted. PrioritiesNH signs citizens on to an email list and communications budget news and advocacy opportunities to them through emails, its website (www.PrioritiesNH.org) and personal contact. COMPENSATION: These are unpaid internships. SCHEDULE: There are summer and fall internships available. The summer internship is 20 hours per week, beginning May, 2007, and ending August, 2007. The fall internship is 20 hours per week, beginning September, 2007, and ending December, 2007. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Communication Assistant's duties will include: monitoring the New Hampshire news media for opportunities to inject our message into a newsworthy issue; writing letters to the editor and talking points and working with members and business leaders to place them in the the New Hampshire press; writing segments for the bi-monthly member emails; writing and editing website pages, including posting news articles; pitching news stories about the campaign to NH news media, and working with reporters and editors to develop coverage; formatting articles for campaign's press scrapbook; and videotaping events and editing videos. The Grassroots Assistant duties will include: entering new member information into the data system; contacting new sign-ups to engage them in the campaign's work; scheduling and supporting volunteers who drive our education vehicles; planning and conducting outreach events; tabling and other types of outreach at a variety of public and private meetings; and update member data as needed. The Campaign Assistant's duties will include: tracking the contact information and activities of volunteers statewide; recruiting them for specific activities such as bird-dogging candidates, driving educational vehicle, or writing letters to their local newspapers; providing whatever support is needed, and thanking them for their efforts. The Campaign Assistant will assist bird-dogging effort by attending candidate events and assisting staff by distributing PrioritiesNH materials and signing up new members. He/she will also help staff schedule and support vehicle events at schools and in communities. QUALIFICATIONS: The Communications Assistant must have excellent writing skills, an interest in marketing and/or issue politics, and a functioning personal vehicle. The Grassroots Assistant and the Campaign Assistant must have a functioning personal vehicle and be able to travel in varying weather conditions. ~ THE YOUTH EDUCATIONAL EMPLOYMENT SERVICE (YEES PROGRAM) is looking for an intern in their NASHUA, NH location who is interested in working with at-risk individuals ranging in age from 10 to 17. RESPONSIBILITIES: The intern will have the opportunity to job shadow the current caseworkers of the company and attend court hearings, interact with the juvenile probation department, attend IEP meetings, administer drug screens, supervise a small caseload of juveniles, interact with therapists, and attend to the Day Reporting Center. Candidates should be aware that they will be left alone with juveniles at different points during the internship, and may be asked to transport juveniles as well. Even though the internship is unpaid, any intern transporting a juvenile will be paid per mile driven. This is a good opportunity for students to build upon their graphic design portfolio, and all interns are allowed to keep samples of their work. Student should have confidence in telephone skills, as they may be responsible for calling media outlets, vendors, and other information resources. Interns at Burke Advertising will be exposed to not only the creative process in developing and designing advertising campaigns, but will also gain understanding into the areas of media planning and placement.
