Academic Assessment at Rivier College is an ongoing process
designed to ensure the integrity and quality of all academic
programs.
To achieve this goal, Rivier College is committed to systematic
evaluation of all programs and student progress towards general and
program-specific academic goals. Each area of the College plays an
important role in the assessment process.
- Academic Administrators and Faculty as
a whole are responsible for developing ways of improving overall
instructional methods and learning outcomes for students throughout
the curriculum.
- Academic Departments are
responsible for assessing discipline-specific programs in light of
current and projected needs within each discipline and for
monitoring the learning outcomes of student majors.
- The Assessment Committee is
responsible for guiding the College's overall efforts towards
increasing the quality of student learning, the quality of academic
instruction, and the quality of institutional effectiveness as it
relates to academics. More specifically, the Assessment Committee is
responsible for promoting continuing assessment of the general
academic goals and core competencies of the College and student
outcomes in these areas.

- Articulate course and academic program goals and expected student
learning outcomes
- Determine ways to evaluate student progress towards these goals
- Develop appropriate assessment tools
- Collect information about student achievement and performance
- Plan and revise curriculum in response to assessment data.
The Assessment Committee
- Guides assessment activities related to academics
- Facilitates dialogue and consensus building of common principles
across disciplines, especially in core competencies
- Develops a college-wide database of general assessment information
for research and planning purposes
- Connects with other institutions involved in ongoing assessment of
student learning
- Provides for faculty development opportunities on campus.
