A
program of systematic assessment of administrative and educational support
departments was undertaken by Rivier College beginning in Spring 2001 as a part
of overall institutional effectiveness assessment activities in order to (a)
demonstrate their support of the institution’s mission and purpose, (b)
document the use of assessment results to improve student services and student
learning, and (c) respond to accreditation requirements of the New England
Association of Schools and Colleges.
Utilizing
the five-column model developed by Karen W. Nichols and James O. Nichols and
Institutional Effectiveness Associates, Rivier College has adopted the
Assessment Record Book portfolio as a common reporting procedure for documenting
assessment activities in all academic departments as well as the following
administrative and educational support units:

Multicultural Programs
Physical Education and Athletics
Public Safety and Security
Regina Library
Student Activities and Orientation

The
Assessment Record Book portfolio provides annual documentation of assessment
activities and includes the following information:

The name
of the unit/department submitting the assessment report.
·
The
assessment period covered by the report.
·
The name
of the individual who is responsible for the report.
·
The
portion of Rivier College’s mission statement that is supported by the
department submitting the report.
·
A brief
statement of the department’s mission
·
At least
three administrative objectives selected for assessment during the annual
assessment cycle.
·
A
description of the source of assessment information for each administrative
objective.
·
A brief
summary of the data collected from assessment activities.
·
A
description of how the department used the information obtained from assessment
activities to improve student services or student learning.
