Lutheran Social Services is looking for interns and your help in spreading the word is needed. We are consistently looking for qualified interns to work in its Refugee Department. Refugee Caseworkers provide direct case management services to the refugee, asylees and other qualified immigrants. Duties include helping clients overcome barriers to resettle in the community, securing/furnish apartments for new arrivals, enrolling children in public schools and counseling refugees/asylees on issues related to self-sufficiency and more. They also provide community orientations to new arrivals and assist Job Developers in finding jobs for clients. Interns have the opportunity to access the needs of clients refer them to community resources accordingly.
While our internships are unpaid, LSS prides it self in providing a unique opportunity for interns to work with people from multicultural backgrounds while learning about issues facing refugees worldwide. Our interns also learn about the United States Refugee Resettlement Program and how it is tide into the US foreign policy. Through this work, interns interact with service providers including DHHS, Public Schools, Hospitals, Police, Fire Department and other public/private agencies.
