Alumni Mentor Program

The Alumni Mentor program provides early exposure to career options and professional network building for current Rivier students.

AlumniMentorGraphic_smallThe program fulfills two core goals—to prepare students for the transition from college to career beginning as early as their first year at the University and to offer alumni opportunities for meaningful engagement with their alma mater. Mentor and Student parnerships last for a minimum of one semester but often continue for additional semesters.

Alumni who wish to be considered for the program are invited to complete our online submission formA member of the Office of University Advancement and Alumni Relations will contact you to discuss your interest in the program. To participate as mentors, alumni should have a minimum of 4 years of professional work experience.

Job Shadow Program

While the mentor program is a semester-long experience, the Job Shadow program provides alumni with the opportunity to offer professional guidance to students over a limited time period. Job Shadowing provides an opportunity for students to learn about a job or a profession and to experience it firsthand by walking through the work day as a shadow to a professional employed in the student’s field of interest.

The job shadow may take place for as little as two hours or up to a full day depending on the availability and needs of the individual hosting the experience. Typically, these opportunities are conducted one-on-one, but could involve one professional and more than one Rivier student if appropriate.

Alumni who offer a job shadow agree to:
•   Offer a minimum two-hour visit to the place of employment. Some job shadow opportunities
may last longer, involving a half day or a full day as appropriate.
•   Share typical work experiences with the student, highlighting the skills needed to
     accomplish goals and objectives.
•   If appropriate, offer a tour of the facility or operation.
•   When appropriate, make introductions to professional colleagues and/or involve them in the
     job shadow opportunity.

Alumni who sign up to participate are matched up with students by the University’s Career Development Center and called upon to schedule Job Shadow Opportunities throughout the year. To learn more about the program and to sign up to participate, complete the online submission form.
