To apply, please submit the following materials to Rivier University:
- Application for Admission: Complete the online application or submit the paper version.
- Application Fee: A nonrefundable $25 fee is submitted with paper applications. Checks should be made payable to Rivier University. Applications for graduate and professional studies undergraduate programs submitted online do not require a fee.
- Statement of Purpose Essay: In one to two pages, please give your reasons for deciding to do graduate study at Rivier University, and in the field you have selected. We are particularly concerned that you cover these points: What previous experiences and commitments have brought you to consider pursuing a graduate program? What are your chief objectives in applying now? How do you think Rivier University’s graduate program will help you in the pursuit of your objectives?
- One Letter of Recommendation from a current or former professor or work supervisor. This may be submitted directly from the author to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Official Academic Transcripts from all post-secondary schools attended, undergraduate and graduate. These are generally submitted directly to the evaluation agency (see below).
- Transcript Evaluations: Transcripts from schools, colleges and universities outside of the U.S. must be evaluated by an agency approved by: the National Association of Credential Evaluators (www.naces.org), the Association of International Credential Evaluators (www.aice-eval.org), the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ies.aacrao.org), or by IDP Education. - Evidence of English Proficiency: Students whose native language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency in the English language. Official scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS) and the Pearson Test of English (PTE) are accepted.
Our minimum acceptable scores for standard English tests are: TOEFL (61), IELTS (5.5) , PTE (43). Some applicants may require higher test scores depending on educational background and program of entry.
Exceptions to the English testing requirement:
- A college or university degree has been earned in the United States prior to applying to Rivier.
- Students who have successfully completed two years of full-time academic study in a degree-granting program in the United States.
Other Test Scores
River University Master’s degree level programs do not require G.R.E., G.M.A.T., or M.A.T. results for entry.
F-1 visa – SEVIS Form I-20 Information
- If an international applicant is requesting an I-20 form to apply for an F-1 student visa you are also required to submit:
- Photocopies of the applicants’ current passport/visa
- An international applicant is required to submit a certificate of finances before a SEVIS Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant Status) is issued. This is a federal required document for issuing the immigration form I-20. The Certificate of Finances for International Students reflects the required financial sources.
- Acceptable documents are:
- Letter of Support and official certification of funds available to the applicant in U.S. currency.
- Letter of Support and documentation with bank certification.
- Scholarships, Assistantships and Other Support Documentation. (If an applicant is awarded a scholarship, attach a copy of your admissions letter which indicates your scholarship and/or documentation from your country’s issuing institution).
- Non-acceptable documents are:
- Certificate of Finances without bank documentation.
- Bank documentation that does not specify the USD currency.
- Bank documentation that does not have the name of the sponsor.

- $34,815 (U.S.) for non-nursing programs
- Undergraduate applicants:
- $49,040 (U.S.) off campus/commuter
- $49,565 (U.S.) on campus/resident
- Doctor of Education (Ed.D)
- $27,084 (U.S.)
- Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.)
- $31,284 (U.S.)
Dependent’s SEVIS I-20 Issuance
- If the principal (F1) student is accompanied by a dependent(s) an additional $3,000 (U.S.) must be reflected on the certificate of finance submitted.
- A copy of the dependent’s passport, and a marriage certificate (spouse) and birth certificate (child) must also been submitted to the Office of Global Engagement.
I-20 forms cannot be produced by the Office of Global Engagement prior to an admission acceptance decision.

Admission applications are reviewed on a rolling basis, and there is no admission deadline. Please ensure that there is enough time to review your application before your start term begins, generally 60 days prior to the intended term start date to allow enough time for admission review, visa processing and travel plans. Normal processing time for Suggested International Transcript Evaluation Agenciesan admission response is two to four weeks from when your completed application material submission is received in Admissions.
