Prepare to be a leader in today's political arena.

Political science majors study political theory from ancient civilizations through modern times to become familiar with the ways in which various cultures have governed themselves and conducted relations with other nations. Questions of war, peace and public morality are considered. Courses in national, state, and local government provide students with an understanding of how the U.S. government operates and how voter participation influences governmental policy.

Coursework in international relations and politics provides knowledge of different cultures, political systems, and international or regional organizations. This greater awareness enables students to function effectively in the “global village” that exists in today’s world.

Elective courses allow students to focus on their particular areas of interest. Students apply classroom learning in the field with a required internship; majors are encouraged to take on internships in a local, regional, or international political campaign, which is aided by New Hampshire’s first-in-the-nation voting status. Internships not only provide valuable experience, but also build student resumes and professional networks ahead of graduation.

Graduates are well-prepared for graduate study, as well; they can pursue master’s degrees in many areas of study, or go on to attend law school.
