Math provides a greater understanding of the world around us.

Math helps us to better understand and describe the world around us; it enables us to count, measure, analyze, and predict most things in our daily lives. If you enjoy problem solving and sharing your knowledge with others, Rivier’s degree in mathematics education offers enjoyable and rewarding career opportunities.

This program prepares graduates to become middle and high school math teachers, and for several other careers requiring a solid understanding of mathematics. Rivier’s strong, hands-on education program delivers:

  • 95% pass rate on national certification exams*
  • Extensive field experience and teaching starting freshman year
  • Eligibility for certification in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories; the Department of Defense Education Activity; Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario per the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement

Rivier’s mathematics education degree fulfills all the requirements of our mathematics major and the New Hampshire State Department of Education Professional Standards for Teachers, which are required for certification. The curriculum includes advanced mathematics and physics courses, problem solving and modeling, teaching math with technology, as well as secondary education coursework.

The program culminates with a 16-week student teaching assignment at a local middle or high school, which is coordinated by Rivier’s Education Department staff. Graduates are confident in front of a classroom; through observations and student teaching, they connect theory with practice for classroom success.

Rivier’s education degrees prepare graduates for the “classroom of the future.” With assistance from several federal grants—including Project New Teachers—the University has become a statewide leader in preparing teachers to integrate technology into their classrooms.

Rivier University is a College of Distinction.
