A degree in English & Communications will prepare you for a career in many diverse areas including publishing, public relations, broadcasting, journalism, education, business, and more.

The undergraduate day communications program offers a choice of six concentrations: each track designed to develop skills and experience in the areas that interest you the most. The field of communications is creative, fast-paced, and constantly changing. With the explosion of countless television and radio stations, as well as new media available on the web, there are many opportunities in the field.

Rivier's new undergraduate evening professional communications program provides the skills needed to enter, or advance within, the competitive communications industry. You'll be prepared for a career in a variety of profit and not-for-profit organizations, including marketing and advertising agencies, public relations firms, newspapers, magazines, publishing companies, radio and television stations, and more. Choose from a bachelor's degree and three certificates in design, professional communications, and professional writing.

The undergraduate English program offers students the opportunity to study literature, creative writing, and English education in preparation for a career as a middle or high school English teacher.

The English program's offerings in literature and creative writing encourage students to discover the wonder of literature and increase their ability to read and write with understanding and depth.

Our graduate programs are disctinctive for their breadth of course offerings and for the highly-qualified faculty who teach them. Students may choose between the M.A. in writing and literature or the M.A.T. in English. Regardless of the path you intend to pursue, Rivier's graduate programs will provide students with the writing and critical thinking skills essential to a wide range of careers in education, marketing, law, business, and more. Faculty members serve as vital resources, guiding students as they explore personal and professional advancement opportunities made possible through the program.

Students who have earned Master's degrees in English from Rivier have completed Ph.D.s or have found careers in such fields as:
