Rivier University’s Division of Nursing and Health Professions is located in Sylvia Trottier Hall. This is where classrooms, the Resource Center, Administrative and Faculty offices are found. The Resource Center offers many resources for hands-on training including replicated hospital rooms and skills labs with manikins, IV pumps, patient care and medication administration equipment. Graduate students can practice advanced health assessment skills on real standardized patients using fully equipped examination rooms.
Simulation at Rivier: Simulation is an educational strategy that re-creates real life situations and allows the participant to develop or enhance knowledge, skills and attitudes that will prepare the student to deal with actual patient issues. The simulation experience provides students with a safe environment that supports the development of clinical reasoning, critical thinking, and clinical judgement skills. All clinical nursing courses at Rivier University include simulation and we have a family of high-fidelity manikins from infant to adult.
Mission Statement: The Rivier University Division of Nursing and Health Professions (DNHP) Resource Center enhances the student preparedness to practice through experiential learning. This combines instructor directed and independent learning to develop procedural skills and enhance the clinical decision making process throughout the students’ academic endeavors. Our graduates will be prepared for professional practice ensuring they are able to provide safe, high quality and equitable health care for all people.
Vision Statement: The Rivier University DNHP Resource Center is a place that supports innovative and student-centered learning and strives to stay in line with the newest technology. Through this experience, future health care workers will engage in the practice of skills and theory for the purpose of facilitating competence in providing safe, patient-centered care, and in teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, informatics and quality improvement. These standards are defined by the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) and the Core Competencies for Public Health Professionals adopted by the Council on Linkages between Academia and Public Health Practice.
Volunteer opportunities: Throughout the year we utilize volunteers in our Resource Center to be live standardized patients. If you are interested in participating, please contact our Resource Center Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
