Courses on campus
Students at Rivier University can study Spanish, Spanish Literature and advanced language courses (undergraduate and graduate), Spanish for Healthcare, French, or Chinese in the classroom. We also offer a Master's of Arts in Teaching Spanish.

Equally we offer a growing number of online courses through Professional Studies.

It is also possible to study many less commonly taught languages or those not taught face-to-face on campus. This can be done in a self-study format through the SILP (Self-Instructed Language Program). For more information about the SILP or other non-credit self-study options, please contact the Director of the SILP.

Other opportunities
The Modern Languages Department offers multiple opportunities to connect with languages outside the classroom via our new weekly language tables for Spanish and French, our once per month language and culture tables for Italian and German, community service internships, and local volunteer opportunities. Please contact the Department Coordinator.

Students may study abroad to many locations world-wide through the Office of Global Engagement. Specifically for Nursing students interested in trips to Senegal, Biology students who are interested in Costa Rica, Alternate Spring Break to El Salvador, or for information about our Spanish program in Oaxaca, Mexico please contact the Office of Global Engagement.

Additionally we have a university-wide license to access the Transparent Language website. For more information about self-study options, please contact the Director of the SILP.

For any other questions, please contact Jackie Madison, Administrative Assistant at or (603) 897-8571.

Please note: We regret to say that we cannot do translations for the Rivier community or outside parties.
