How to Enroll

How to enroll in Service Learning
Contact your Academic Advisor to register for the SL100 option or a course that offers a Plus-One option. If you are interested in an alternative service-learning option connected with one of your classes, propose the idea to your professor. Faculty approval is required. The Service Learning Office can also assist in this process.  

Steps to Serve
Step 1 

Discover Opportunities
The Service Learning Office has information on local community agencies that are in need of volunteers. The University has official partnerships with over 12 community agencies. The office has a resource library with literature on all of the partnerships. Additionally, the office will work with students if the have interests that are outside of these partnerships. 

Step 2 

Fill out the Rivier Volunteer Application 
Utilize this form to provide your contact information, availability and volunteer interests. Once completed, please provide to the Service Learning Office.

Step 3 

Receive Referral Information for the Volunteer Site
After completing the application, the service learning office will review your interests and availability. They will contact you within 1 week of receipt of the application. They will work with you to provide a referral to a community agency.

Step 4 

Contact Volunteer Site and Start
Once you receive the referral information, please contact the agency as soon as possible. Remember, often times agencies have separate volunteer applications and may require a criminal record check which can take time to complete.

Step 5 

Complete the Service Learning AgreementThis form should be signed by yourself, your service learning instructor and the agency supervisor. Once completed, return it to the service learning office for their record. In order to receive your Service Learning credit, this form must be returned.

Step 6 

Complete the Service Learning Hour Log 
This form should be signed by yourself and the agency supervisor. Once completed, return it to the service learning office for their record. In order to receive your Service Learning credit, this form must be returned. Please note that your service learning class may offer an online hour log instead of a paper log.

Step 7 

Complete the Service Learning Assessment FormThis form should be completed by yourself to provide details and feedback in regard to your service experience. Once completed, return it to the service learning office for their record. In order to receive your Service Learning credit, this form must be returned.
